After deciding upon an idea I wrote a short synopsis to my show briefly outlining the premise of my show. This included a brief set of rules to the quiz, the setting and the characters involved.
My next task was to design what is referred to as a 'wow image'. This is an image to grab your audiences attention. Once I had chosen a name I designed a title page.
I like images with bright, simple colours and the Babar art style that I'm re-creating uses them very well, so I enjoyed creating this. It took far longer than I had anticipated but it was worth it as this really summed up the style of my show.
The next thing I did was to create some very simple character designs. At this point I wasn't planning on spending too long on the characters but i wanted to show some examples on the direction I would be going. The rhino was a rough copy of the rhino character in Babar, I was never planning on copying characters as I want to designs my own original ones but the purpose of time I used this as a reference. I added a suit and his faithful side-kick.
Although a rough idea, I was happy with the look of the zebra, Simple designs could work nicely for the limited animation style I'm aiming for and the colour and texture of the body looked good. The lion was just a very quick drawing and is certainly something I'll come back to another time.
I also designed a set, again like the characters the is something that I hope to spend more time on when I come to creating my design bible. I think this is on the right track although I think the composition of it can be tightened a bit. Everything could be cloder together and the characters more on top of each other to add to the wackiness that I want to inject into the show. On a technical note I like the perspective!
